Play therapy is a type of mental health developmental intervention for children up to around age 12, that is designed to help children grow up as happy and well adjusted as possible. Play therapy involves the use of play to communicate with children and to help them learn to solve problems and to change negative behaviors. Sometimes play therapy involves the entire family. Play therapy gives your child a voice to communicate their emotions and thoughts. Play therapy has been around since the 1960’s. Observing your child playing with toys such as stuffed animals, toy houses, or miniatures in a sand tray along with your child’s willingness to interact with the therapist, helps to determine and overcome, the root cause of their emotions and behaviors.
